Smartphone becomes credit card
The pilot is a collaboration with Mobistar and uses Near Field Communications technology that is present in the SIM card itself. Holding the smartphone 4 cm from the payment terminal will activate the payment and does not require a pin number if the payment remains below 25 euro.
“Smartphone and tablet payments are becoming more popular, but have been restricted to e-commerce. From now on, consumers can turn their smartphone into a digital wallet they can use in shops”, Mastercard Benelux’ David Dechamps said.
