While 4.3 % of that growth can be attributed to inflation, the surge in online spending also reflects a structural transformation in consumer habits. An overwhelming 96 % of Belgians aged 15 and over made at least one online purchase last year, totalling 179 million transactions (a year-on-year increase of 5 %), a survey by sector federation Becom suggests. The average online transaction in Belgium was worth 97 euros last year.
