Tesco Opticians, British supermarket giant Tesco‘s optician chain, will become part of GrandVision, a company listed on the Amsterdam stock exchange. The British Bureau of Competition still needs to approve the deal however.
209 optician stores
Tesco Opticians has 209 stores and 1,500 employees in the United Kingdom and Ireland, representing a 90 million pound turnover (105 million euro). GrandVision will acquire the chain for an undisclosed fee.
GrandVision is already present in Great Britain through its Vision Express optician chain and will now add 209 stores for a total of 598. According to GrandVision, which hopes to finalize the deal in the second half of 2017, the acquisition will not impact Tesco Opticians’ staff.
GrandVision is now active in fourty countries in Europe, North and South America and Asia. It owns chains like Pearle and GrandOptical, has more than 6,500 stores and more than 31,000 employees. GrandVision’s total turnover last year reached 3.3 billion euro, up 3.5 % compared to the year before.
