According to Google this feature is a logical
step in their process. At the moment countless people visit the video website
to learn more about products through tutorials. One of the channels that became
successful with this, is that of TRESemmé, where consumers can watch interviews and videos about how they can take better care of their hair. Thanks
to this new feature, those viewers can now buy the products shown in the
videos, quick and easy.
Google is hoping to turn views into sales: the
channel of TRESemmé has had 2.7 million views already, a huge potential market.
The company also says it will get no commission from products sold via this
feature.
The feature also only works when the viewer is
on the channel, so it will not work on embedded videos. Google is hoping
advertisers will contact Google to see what their options are in this new
set-up. For now the feature is only available for producers of consumer
articles that are premium members of Google.
