TikTok has now officially launched its Shop in France, Germany and Italy, marking a new phase in e-commerce, which is now also becoming entertainment. The platform combines social content with direct sales, without its users leaving the app. Is it a curse or a blessing for retailers?

For the French launch, TikTok Shop was able to seduce thousands of sellers – including major players like Carrefour. Larger retailers are experimenting with the platform in Germany as well: the local About You store features 100 brands, including Adidas, Birkenstock and Vero Moda. For the first twelve days, About You is organising live shows by influencers each day, to test the concept.
