Unilever bought Swedish air purifier manufacturer Blueair for an undisclosed fee. It says the company is the market leader when it comes to indoor air purifying technology.
Addition to its own services
Blueair, founded in 1996, managed a 2015 turnover of 106 million dollars (95 million euro), and is one of the largest air purifier manufacturers in China, the United States, Japan, South Korea and India. Unilever considers the company a perfect addition to its own water purifying services.
It is also Unilever’s second acquisition in quick succession: it bought Dollar Shave Club, an online razor blade subscription service, at the end of June. With this purchase, it aims to compete with Gilette’s owner, Procter & Gamble. Dollar Shave Club already acquired a 5 % market share last year, while P&G’s share dwindled over the past 5 years, from 71 % to 59 %.
