Why Dutch consumers shop less but spend more online

In the first quarter of 2025, Dutch consumers shopped online less frequently, but spent more. Interestingly, they spent more on products and less on services. What conclusions can be drawn?

Products driving growth

The number of online transactions fell by 3% to 84 million, while total online spending increased by 4% to 9.3 billion euros. This brings the average spending per online purchase to 110 euros, a 6% rise compared to a year earlier, according to figures from the latest Thuiswinkel Markt Monitor.
