Animal web shop Zooplus‘ turnover grew 28 % in 2016, compared to the year before. For 2017, it hopes to surpass the 1 billion euro turnover barrier as a first step towards its ultimate goal, which is to surpass 2 billion euro in 2020.
Germany is the largest market
Zooplus’ total turnover reached 909 million euro in 2016, up 28 % compared to the year before (at 711 million euro). The company managed double-digit turnover growth in every of its thirty markets, but Germany (with 236 million euro) is still comfortably its largest market. France (154 million euro) and Great Britain (80 million euro) are second and third, with the Netherlands in fifth (62 million euro) and Belgium eighth (38 million euro).
EBITDA grew from 12.7 million euro to 17.9 million euro, partially thanks to its increased customer base, from 4 to 4.8 million. 92 % of those are also returning customers.
“In 2016, we further strengthened our position as the market leader in the online retailing of pet supplies in Europe and continued to consistently follow our successful strategy. In 2017, we intend to continue pursuing this growth path and plan to reach sales of significantly more than EUR 1 bn for the first time”, CEO Cornelius Patt said.
