Due to continuous problems with Matratzen Concord, Dutch bed selling chain Beter Bed is looking into a sale of its German branch.
Financial problems
The scandal with poison in Germany continues to haunt Beter Bed: despite a huge reorganisation that already sealed the fate of 150 German stores, Matratzen Concord still faces a decreasing sales trend. The problems now also affects the chain’s market liquidity.
As a result, Beter Bed has started negotiations with the banks to find a long term solution, which could be a partial or complete sale of Matratzen Concord and its 700 German, 74 Austrian and 55 Swiss stores. However, CEO John Kruijssen says such a move is only being studied and absolutely not certain to be carried out: “There have been talks with several interested parties, but a decision is not going to be made any time soon”, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports.
As the chain still achieves impressive growth results in Sweden and the Benelux region, Beter Bed wants to concentrate more on these markets in the future.
