Furniture chain Ikea launched an app that allows users to view Ikea kitchens from any side they want. The app is designed for the HTC Vive, a virtual reality goggle from HTC and Valve.
Through the eyes of a child
“Virtual reality is developing quickly and in five to ten years it will be an integrated part of people’s lives. We see that virtual reality will play a major role in the future of our customers. For instance, someday, it could be used to enable customers to try out a variety of home furnishing solutions before buying them”, managing director Jesper Brodin said about the app’s development.
Users can not only use the app to view the kitchen, but can also use it to see it as if they were a child.: they can ‘shrink’ themselves in the app, in order to see the possible dangers for a child.
Ikea hopes users will pass on their ideas on the Ikea VR Experience app, to help improve it. The company will continue to provide updates all throughout its testing period, until the end of August.
