Ikea strikes up collaborations with HAY and Tom Dixon

Ikea announced it will collaborate with Danish HAY and British designer Tom Dixon. Its collaboration with Tom Dixon is designed to find solution for small living areas.

Collections will appear in 2017

“Scandinavian design is known to be functional, modest and simple. With Hay, we want to explore what the future of Scandinavian design entails. With Tom Dixon, we will turn our attention to dealing with ever-smaller living areas. What are the consequences for design and the creation of furniture? Tom is an actual expert, always on the lookout for things to improve and innovate, which is very inspiring”, Ikea Design Manager Marcus Engman said.

The HAY collaboration will result in a new collection focused on more social interaction and coziness in the living room. Several new techniques and a range of materials will be used in its creation and the entire collection should be available in the fall of 2017.

Ikea and Tom Dixon will also look for solutions for the future of living, particularly considering spaces will become more cramped. “Furniture has not been adapted to deal with that situation, which means it is an excellent time to experiment. Our primary focus is seating solutions, which may appear simple, but will have a tremendous impact on future design.” This collection should launch in the summer of 2017.
