Public transport
Ikea’s first Citystore will be in Hamburg’s traffic-free shopping area and will occupy a 18,000 sqm four-floor building. Ikea will invest 80 million euro in the construction of its third store in the German harbour city. The new type of store is Ikea’s attempt to get half of its audience to come to the store through public transport.
“We have found the ideal circumstances here to build our first Citystore with public transport arriving right at the store’s doorstep and with perfectly tailored deliveries, we can convince a lot of visitors to leave their car at home“, Christian Mollerus, the Citystore’s store manager, said.
Papershop
Every Dutch Ikea store has a Papershop, full of stationery like notebooks and gift paper. Ever since last year, the stores in Delft, Barendrecht and Amersfoort have had a Papershop and the other stores will get on by 1 August. There are two stores that will have to wait a bit longer: Duiven (1 September) and Breda (1 January 2015).
