More international deals on the horizon
Its very first European mainland shop-in-shops should arrive in the spring of 2016 and De Bijenkorf stores in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague will be the first to get a John Lewis shop-in-shop. Before the end of 2016, Eindhoven and Utrecht will join the list and Amstelveen and Maastricht will welcome John Lewis in 2017.
The arrival of the “better” British department store fits the group’s international expansion plans. It had already opened 14 shop-in-shops in Singapore and the Philippines this year, after having opened 7 stores in South Korea.
“We’re delighted to be debuting our first European shop-in-shop and de Bijenkorf is the perfect partner to enable us to bring John Lewis to a new customer base and country”, John Lewis’ managing director Andy Street said. “Our existing shop-in-shops in Singapore, the Philippines and South Korea have been well received and are trading well. Whilst we remain committed to our UK physical expansion we hope to announce more international collaborations in 2016.” It did not mention which countries are lined up for a possible expansion.
