HMV is opening a new store in Brussels: not only the second one in Belgium, but the second one on the whole European continent as well. The British music and pop culture chain wants to make it the central hub for (music) entertainment in the European capital.
Music and pop culture
With a surface area of 585 sqm, the Brussels branch aims to become the largest entertainment shop in Belgium, both in terms of product range and surface area. The shop will create eight new jobs. Managing director Phil Halliday wants to make the outlet the music destination in the capital, with a range that includes pop culture in addition to music. Like the shop in Wijnegem, which opened in November, the newcomer will also sell Marvel and Star Wars products and more than 300 different T-shirts.
Halliday also highlights the company’s growth potential on the European continent and the positive response to its first Belgian shop. The opening of the Brussels branch is seen as an important step in this further expansion. Since the relaunch from bankruptcy in 2019, new owner Doug Putman has revitalised the chain and prepared it for international expansion.
