Chinese lifestyle retailer Miniso broke sales records on the opening day of its largest European shop, in an absolutely prime location: the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris.
Ambition: world domination
Last Saturday, Miniso opened a flagship store in the most famous shopping street in Paris. The “Super Store” accounts for 800 sqm of sales space over two floors and immediately achieved the highest daily turnover ever for a branch of the chain outside China. In the shop, customers will find not only household goods, cosmetics or stationery, but also licensed collections from Sanrio, Disney, Barbie and South Korean phenomenon BT21.
The Chinese retailer makes no secret of its ambitions: Miniso wants to become a global brand, and the opening of large experience shops in prime locations contributes to this. Recently, the chain also opened flagship stores in Times Square in New York and Oxford Street in London. After opening in Paris, the chain has 6,630 shops in 110 countries worldwide. The group plans to open about a thousand additional shops this year, more than half of which abroad.
Miniso saw its global sales rise 26 % to 515.7 million dollars (480 million euros) in the first quarter of this year. Foreign sales rose 52.6 % to 169.2 million dollars (160 million euros).
