Online platforms have improved
Adidas partners were not allowed to sell anything Adidas-related (or its fellow brand Reebok) at online marketplaces. The German cartel office immediately started an investigation into Adidas, an investigation that will now be halted as Adidas has lifted the ban.
“We have decided to extend our e-commerce guidelines to also include open market places: if our retail partners adhere to our criteria, there will be no restriction for online sales in any channel“, Adidas said.
According to Adidas, it has lifted the ban because online platforms have improved considerably over the past few years. There is still a German investigation into Asics, which has also given its partners a similar restriction.
