American online platform Amazon has decided to pull the plug on its flash sale website MyHabit, which was founded five years ago but never managed to meet expectations.
Waning popularity
MyHabit’s employees have allegedly already been informed that the website will shut down by the end of next month, and their CEO has already become Amazon’s own fashion brands’ new manager in January.
Flash sales were very popular several years ago, particularly in the wake of the financial crisis. However, many of these websites have struggled as of late, with lower levels of excess stock available to sell on websites like MyHabit. Several fashion labels have always refused to collaborate with MyHabit, because of its connection with Amazon.
Right now, Amazon is trying to improve its image within the fashion industry. It portrays the items more beautifully and its clothing discounts are not as large as they used to be. On the other hand, Amazon is also preparing its own fashion collections, to fill holes in its product range.
