“No impact on deliveries”
In four distribution centers, strikes will take place until 24 December, while shorter strikes will take place in 2 other distribution centers. Verdi expects similar numbers to its previous strikes, when hundreds of employees joined, although Amazon believes only a small minority will take part in the strikes.
“There is absolutely no impact on our customer delivery promise. The vast majority of our employees are working”, an Amazon spokesperson told Reuters.
Amazon Germany has experienced plenty of strikes since May 2013 and each and every one revolves around the same issue. Labour unions demand higher wages and better extras, similar to what employees in the German retail industry get. However, Amazon says its employees belong to the logistics industry and that they even get paid above average, compared to others in that sector.
