Size of 13 football fields
The centres will be built close to the Prague airport and in Brno, the country’s
second largest city, according to Czech press agency CTK. Each centre will
occupy 95,000 sqm, some 13 football fields. 4,000 full-time equivalents will be
employed, and up to 6,000 additional seasonal workers.
The American giant had previously announced three new Polish logistics
centres, allegedly to be able to follow
increased European demand for e-commerce. Another benefit is that this
would diminish its dependence on Germany: Amazon has been locking horns with German
labour union Ver.di for months over (low) wages, a conversation with seemingly
no end in sight.
