Online retailer Amazon is doing very well lately: in its past quarter, it achieved another record profit, for the third time in a row. It is also its fifth straight profitable quarter.
Profit margin doubled
Amazon’s total turnover grew 31 %, from 23.19 billion dollars (20.9 billion euro to 30.4 billion dollars (27.4 billion euro). Profit grew almost tenfold compared to last year, to 857 million dollars (773 million euro), while its operational profit margin grew 2.2 % to 4.2 %.
An important factor in Amazon’s growth was its Amazon Web Services once again, with a 58 % turnover increase.
Continue to invest
It is the first time since 2012 that Amazon managed 5 straight profitable quarters as it was mostly onerous over the past few years because of major investments, like the construction of new distribution centers.
However, this does not mean that Amazon will no longer invest: it intends to open another 18 warehouses in the current quarter alone. 268,900 people currently work for Amazon.
