600,000 books
For 9.99 dollars per month, Kindle Unlimited would grant access to more than 600,000 digital books and thousands of audio books, as several leaked pages and images – found by users – have shown.
It is a comparable service to Netflix or Spotify, but for books. There are already several similar subscription models in the United States, specifically for books, like Scribd and Oyster. Amazon Prime members can also borrow one book per month for their Kindle.
The major publishers have not yet been added to Kindle Unlimited, but Amazon is apparently negotiating with several publishers to make that happen. That would bring it up to the level of its competitor Oyster, which has several large publishers on its list, even though it has had to pay huge sums beforehand and it pays a fixed amount per book read. Amazon will undoubtedly, considering its powerful position, not accept a similar proposal.
