To save time and space
Amazon would pass an order to the mobile unit closest to the customer, which would print it and deliver it at the customer’s doorstep. That would cut down shipping times considerably as the distance to the customer is smaller and employees would no longer have to look for the product in distribution centers, which wouldn’t have to be as large any more – creating extra financial cutbacks.
Amazon’s patent will not necessarily result in any advancements anytime soon, ande it could also be the idea never comes to fruition – as is the case with plenty of other patents. Nevertheless, the patent does demonstrate that Amazon is still trying to optimize its shipping procedure. It has spent plenty of time and effort over the past few years to shorten the time between the order and the actual delivery as much as possible.
