Amazon will continue to invest into its European operations, which will help create thousands of new jobs with the American online retailer. In the United Kingdom alone, 2,500 new jobs will be added.
Innovation
The world’s largest online retailer wants to keep expanding several European services, including grocery deliveries and the different digital media it owns. Currently, Amazon employs 41,000 people in Europe, including 10,000 that were only hired last year. The company states it has already invested 15 billion euro into its new European infrastructure since 2010.
One of its plans for 2016 is to add 2,500 jobs in the United Kingdom, spread over its London-based main office, three R&D centers and 10 warehouses. Adding these new employees will bring Amazon’s UK presence to 14,500 employees.
Amazon also looks to Europe as an important region for innovation. It is examining Prime Air, a drone delivery service, in the United Kingdom, for example. However, it also wants to further limit delivery times in Europe, similar to how several American cities already enjoy a 1-hour delivery service.
