American online powerhouse Amazon aims to create 15,000 new jobs in Europe this year (among which 2,000 in Germany, 1,500 in France and 5,000 jobs in the United Kingdom), as the company looks to expand its logistics network and other services.
Varied job openings
The number is a record for Amazon in Europe and includes a varied range of staff, from linguists to software developers and logistic experts. Its total number of German employees will grow from 14,500 to 16,500, while France will nearly add 1,500 jobs to its current 4,000-strong workforce. The bulk of new jobs will be located in the United Kingdom: the region already has 19,000 Amazon employees, but that number will grow to 24,000.
Amazon’s strong growth in all of its division has sparked this new wave of job openings. For instance, the company is still investing a lot in its own logistics network, with currently already more than 100 locations across Europe, from distribution centers to a network of research divisions and data centers.
Customers will also benefit from Amazon’s increased workforce: Munich and Berlin already have same-day delivery (sometimes even same-hour delivery) and Amazon Fresh, its online supermarket, is also becoming more popular in Europe.
