Apple has shelved the plans for its own car: the team working on the plans had 1,000 employees, several hundred of them will now be out of a job.
Internal conflicts
Project Titan, as it was labeled internally, was an Apple project designed to develop a self-driving car. The team intended to collaborate with external partners, but it also wanted to manufacture its very own model.
The idea has not yet been scrapped entirely: employees still working on Project Titan will get until the end of next year to show that Apple’s own car has potential. If that is not the case, then the entire project may be tossed in the bin.
Apple spent several hundred million dollars on the project, but it seems brands like Tesla have overtaken it in this area. There had always been turmoil within Apple about Project Titan and how it should develop, which may be part of the reason why it is now nearly dead and buried.
