Hardware sales included
Apple’s online sales grew 24 % in 2013 to 18.3 billion dollars (13.1 billion euro), a huge jump because the one that drafts the list, Internet Retailer, has now included the online sales numbers for Apple’s hardware. Previously, it only looked at the App Store and iTunes sales.
Apple is still miles behind Amazon, which reached 67.8 billion dollars (48.7 billion euro), a number that equals the next 10 companies on the list. Amazon’s turnover also grew another 20 % in 2013. Number three on the list is Staples, with only a 1 % increase in turnover to 10.4 billion dollars (7.5 billion euro). Staples manages to get 45 % of its total turnover from online sales.
Wal-Mart is fourth with a 30 % online turnover increase in 2013 to 10 billion dollars (7.2 billion euro). The result means that Wal-Mart’s online revenue – for the first time ever – outpaced that of Amazon.
