German car manufacturer BMW is planning its very own European version of taxi company Uber, according to interview statements made by board member Peter Schwarzenbauer.

Schwarzenbauer says it is may be possible BMW would expand its car sharing service to a ride sharing service. Alongside car rental company Sixt, BMW has a DriveNow service in Germany which offers hundreds of BMW and Mini cars for a short rental period. Those cars may soon be available for rental periods, during which the driver can use them as a taxi. The service is also available in Denmark, England, Austria and Sweden.
He also feels there is room for such a service as Uber has not fully penetrated the European market yet. Uber’s “Silicon valley cowboy mentality” may be to blame for that, as the European market does not act like that, according to Schwarzenbauer. He does believe Uber will make another huge effort to conquer the European market soon.
