Make real name mandatory online
To combat the online sale of counterfeit goods, the Chinese government wants to force buyers to use their real name online instead of a nickname. It will also use electronic tags so that it can more easily track fraudulent people. On top of these measures, it will improve its legislation, improving the exchange of information between the country’s many regions.
China became a member of the World Trade Organization in 2001, which means it would respect intellectual property rights and it has tried to fend off the production of counterfeit items ever since. China’s official press agency Xinhua says more than 40 % of all items sold online in China last year were either counterfeit or of poor quality. Particularly more expensive items, like Louis Vuitton and iPhones, are a popular target.
