Step closer to a virtual fitting room
One of the biggest problems of online fashion boutiques is that customers are not able to try their purchases, increasing the chance of a mismatch and therefore the number of returns. EBay realizes this as well and has purchased 3D specialist PhiSix to remedy the problem.
The latter develops virtual 3D models of pieces of clothing based on photographs and then simulates how these items would fit on different (moving) figures, showing the potential customer if the item would fit him or her and whether the size is the right one. As these sizes often differ from brand to brand, being able to try them out (virtually) is a huge plus. Jonathan Su, previously a researcher at Intel, founded PhiSix in 2012.
