Luxury
platform aimed at rich m-tail consumers
EBay is not just the second-hand marketplace it started as any more: two years ago eBay bought GSI Commerce, which developed and managed online
shops for brands and retailers such as toy retailer Toys R Us, electronics
chain Radioshack and shoe label Timberland.
Currently
eBay is also working on a platform for luxury fashion: according to American fashion
news site Drapersonline the platform has already had talks with retailers such
as Karen Millen and Reiss and the designer label Marc Jacobs. The platform,
which has no name yet, would sell pieces of clothing at full price.
The
application for luxury brands will firstly be developed for mobile transactions
via smartphones or tablets. Only in a later stage will there be a website that
can be used on normal computers.
