Elon Musk launched his master plan about 10 years ago, dedicating plenty of attention to the development of the electric car. Right now, the man behind PayPal and Tesla gave an update to his grand plan.
Energy supplier
He intends to turn Tesla into a major energy company and the first step is to acquire solar panel manufacturer SolarCity. In 2020, he wants to open GigaFactory, a huge company where it wants to manufacture batteries like the Powerwall. The very first part of that factory will open its doors later this month.
The eventual goal is to integrate the solar panels and batteries, which basically clears the way for the consumer to create its own energy.
Uber competition
However, Tesla will not stop manufacturing cars. It even wants to produce more models in the future, with the first to be presented sometime next year. These cars should drive themselves to an increased degree, but another 10 billion kilometers have to be driven before worldwide governments will accept the technology. Musk feels the technology is already safer than when people drive.
These self-driving cars will have to contribute to a shared car fleet. Consumers can get their car to make them money while they are at the office themselves. In major cities, Tesla aims to compete with other car-sharing companies, by offering its own fleet of cars.
