Facebook will add this widget to the top right corner of the page, but only
the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and India will take part in
the test. The new feature will also currently be limited to Facebook’s computer version, as the social network site is still working on a mobile version.
With the feature, Facebook
is following in the footsteps of Twitter, that
has been using a “trending topics” widget for quite a while. The new
application is not only useful for users, but will probably also result in new
commercial opportunities for Facebook. It also fits right into its new strategy
to nestle itself closer to today’s news and whatever interests its audience.
