Higher wages
Leipzig and Bad Hersfeld have gone on strike at midnight and the other cities followed suit at 05h. Labour union Ver.di has asked to keep the strike going until Tuesday evening at least.
German labour unions have tried to get higher wages for Amazon’s employees for months. They want labour agreements, similar to what employees get in the German retail and logistics branches. Ver.di claims Amazon has decided to stick to its own rules and that it pays its employees too little.
German employees also complain about performance pressure and a lack of breaks. Amazon Germany has 9,000 people on its payroll, spread over 9 distribution centres.
