Not as willing in other countries
In order to achieve its goal of getting higher wages for all warehouse employees, Ver.di has already held talks with worker representatives from Poland, France, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. Amazon Germany’s employees have gone on several strikes already as they feel they are being underpaid compared to similar companies within their branch.
However, a large, international strike seems to be out of reach at the moment as employees in other countries are not as willing to go on strike as their German counterparts. No deal to that end has already been struck at an international level. Even worse: according to Amazon, no one had participated in a previous strike attempt in France.
Amazon Germany’s staff went on strike for the first time some 2 years ago, but to no avail so far. Amazon refuses to budge and has stated that the wages for staff at distribution centers are “sufficient”.
