Google Home, which is Google‘s voice assistant, has added a shopping functionality to its options, taking on Amazon‘s Alexa.
Google Express
Thanks to this new service, Google Home users can order from more than 50 national and local chains in the United States. The chains, including Target, Walgreens and Whole Foods, are all connected to Google Express and deliver at home.
Right now, users can only order 1 thing, ranging from 4 dollars to 100 dollars, at a time. In order to do so, the customer will say (for instance) “OK google, order toilet paper” and instantly get a price suggestion. If he does not like that suggestion and wishes to get another one, he can simply refuse the first option, but he can also confirm and go ahead with the order.
A Google Express subscription costs 95 dollars per year, but Google Home owners can use it for free until 30 April. The shopping addition pits the device against Amazon Alexa even more, even though the latter has the advantage of Amazon’s web shop. Alexa is able to execute more than 3,000 tasks.
