Technology giant Google is currently trialing digital wallets, which should help customers to pay more easily at a cash register. The new system is designed to be entirely hands-free.
Facial recognition
Google wants to eliminate the need to get your smartphone out of your pocket if you want to make a payment. Facial recognition should help clear the way as the Hands Free app is currently being tested with a small number of users and retailers in Silicon Valley.
Using Bluetooth and WiFi, the app checks whether someone’s smartphone is in the area of a Hands Free-enabled location. The only thing a cashier will need are the customer’s initials and then that can be cross-checked with the customer’s face, which is linked to his account.
Google even wants to install cameras in several stores, which can check whether the smartphone and the user belong together even prior to payments, which should once again speed up the payment process.
