McD Ordering, as the app is called, is being trialed at 22 Georgia locations and the app allows customers to place an order beforehand. Once they have arrived at their local McDonald’s, they have to scan a QR code and that will clear their order as it will automatically pay for the order through a linked credit card. The order is then sent to the kitchen, the customer gets an order number and can pick up the food without really having to wait in line.
The company has launched similar programs elsewhere, with a similar app in Austria and mobile payments in Thailand. The main goal is to cut down lines in the restaurants, while the gathered data can be used to present customer-tailored offers to match their eat habits.
