German Media-Saturn Group plans to shut down its Red Coon web shop in several countries, because it feels Redcoon’s activities collide with other sales channels internally, making it superfluous.
German and Polish shops will survive
The news comes from an internal email, obtained by hardware.info. In it, Media-Saturn writes that it will not only shut down Redcoon in the Benelux, but also in Spain, Portugal and Austria. The German and Polish web shops are not mentioned, which means they will probably survive (this time around).
In these particular countries, Media Markt will usurp Redcoon’s activities, while Redcoon’s Dutch office will shut down completely. The company did not reveal any information about when each web shop will shut down.
Several years ago, German Media-Saturn acquired Redcoon, a successful online shop for consumer electronics. With Media Markt’s new multichannel strategy, Redcoon had become redundant within the company structure.
