Online supermarket Picnic has introduced the Boodschappenradar (grocery radar), a new service for its online order app that now also displays where the delivery currently is and when it will arrive. Picnic is the first delivery service that offers this type of live service.
Just like a taxi service
In the morning, customers will get a text message informing them when their order will arrive, with a time frame of 30 minutes. “Customers often asked us whether we could increase the accuracy of our delivery timing. We used that feedback to create something that resembles taxi service Uber’s options. You can now see our car driving around your smartphone screen and get a clear indication when it will arrive at your doorstep. You only need to be home for a few minutes, making it easier for the customer.”
Customer Jessica Wolffers helped developed the grocery radar. “Previously, you did not need to wait for hours to get Picnic deliveries, but the grocery radar helps improve the accuracy to within a minute. That is very helpful if you are still with the neighbours or if you still need to pick up your children.”
Name of delivery person included
The Picnic app also meets another customer request: who is the cute boy or girl that delivers my groceries? Muller: “At the general request of our customers, we have given each of our delivery people a short profile, because customers like it when they get to know the person who arrives at their doorstep.”
7,000 customers now
Picnic recently welcomed its 6,000th customer in Amersfoort, while 1,000 Leusden households use the online delivery service. 100 delivery people with 25 electric carts deliver the online orders, which means that Picnic has grabbed a 10 % market share since it launched in September 2015.
Customers have several reasons to switch to Picnic: free delivery at home, long lines at the cash register are a thing of the past and they no longer have to carry heavy bags around. A growing product range filled with local products is also appealing to many customers. For example, Picnic recently added beer made by brewery De Volle Maat (located in Leusden) and Sambal Bert’s sambal (from Amersfoort) to its product range.
