Store chain Fnac has now given sellers of sports products, kitchen appliances and household appliances the opportunity sell items on its marketplace. In France, this puts the company in direct competition with major online players.
Competition with Amazon
According to French CLSA, Fnac’s new expansion is another step in the Fnac – Darty collaboration, a company that Fnac acquired last year. The merger should be finalized later this year.
With these new additions, Fnac has nearly 20 different categories on its website, which means it will compete with Amazon, but thanks to the addition of sports products, it will also compete with chains like Decathlon.
Fnac has a yearly turnover of nearly 4 billion euro and is active in France and about a dozen of other countries, including Belgium. Thanks to the Darty acquisition, it also enlisted Belgian Vandenborre and Dutch BCC.
