7-Eleven
Taobao’s 200 new pick-up points will be placed at several mail offices and American 7-Eleven stores in Hong Kong. Customers who decide to pick up their orders, will have to pay less.
According to Taobao, the pick-up service is because Hong Kong customers live busy lives and the company wants to offer flexibility. It is not the first time Alibaba and 7-Eleven have collaborated as customers can already acquire Alipay cards there, which allow them to pay on Alibaba’s platforms.
Future expansion
Alibaba does not exclude additional pick-up points in the future, if there are suitable partners. “We will not blindly open up new locations. Instead, we will go with the flow in terms of customer needs”, Teddy Lui (Alibaba’s lead of eBusiness and service in Hong Kong and Macau) said.
Tmall.com, Alibaba’s other online marketplace, has had pick-up points for several years.
