Limited number of users
Uber wants to bring the convenience store to the customer’s front door through Corner Store. A limited amount of users can now order a little more than 100 products and get these home-delivered. The pilot will only run for several weeks, using Uber’s car app.
Customers will get a notification when a driver is available, showing which products are available. If a customer wants to buy something, the driver will call him and take his order. The bill will be handled through the customer’s Uber profile.
Several American companies already provide this service and they are quite popular in cities like San Francisco and New York. Uber trialed its service in Washington DC because it is an untapped market and contrary to its competitors, Uber will deliver groceries with cars while many other companies prefer bike deliveries. Again, Washington DC is a astute choice as there is plenty of room to drive a car.
