50 million v. 4 billion parcels per year
Kiala was founded in 2010 and currently ships 136.000 parcels per day
(50 million per year) for 300 webshops in five countries. In 2010, Kiala’s turnover was 49 million euro, but the company hopes to
have raised that amount to 54,3 million in 2011 – and even further in
the next years, as the transaction will enable Kiala to grow even
faster. Its French CEO, Denis Payre, told Le Monde that “everything was
settled in a matter of weeks. UPS took the first step towards us, which
is a nice compliment for such a small company as Kiala.”
Together with FedEx and DHL, UPS is one of the three main players in the
parcel service market. The company has sent almost 4 billion packages
in 220 countries worldwide in 2010, resulting in a turnover of 49.6
billion dollar (38 billion euro). UPS has almost 400,000 employees, of
which 80% work in the US.
