FAA’s proposal says drone pilots have to get a special license, have to stay away from other people and can only fly during the day. Furthermore, a drone can only fly 160 kilometers per hour and can fly no higher than 150 meters and the FAA wants pilots to be able to see their drone at all times. A second pilot can help in that regard, according to the FAA.
The new legislation, which has been ten years in the making, is not exactly a step forward for companies like Amazon who want to use drones to deliver packages. Unfortunately for them, this will still not be allowed in the new legislation. The FAA does however expect the law to evolve over time.
In the meantime, other countries have allowed drone-delivered packages: DHL delivers packages by drone in Germany, in order to reach the Wadden Island Juist.
