Snapchat users can buy things from inside the app soon according to Snapchat board member Joanna Coles. No fixed date was revealed however.
Investment in shopping app
There had been unconfirmed rumours that Snapchat had plans to sell products through the app, but Coles’ statement makes it very hard to deny those rumours in the future.
The company also hired Krish Jayaram as its “head of commerce”, but it had not actually taken a step towards eCommerce yet. It does sell additional services for the app, like photo filters or the ability to replay snaps.
It also has a SnapCash service, which allows users to transfer money to each other, although analysts feel this was the company’s first attempt to obtain its users’ credit card information, paving the way for future purchases.
Snapchat also invested in shopping app Spring last year, but there is no actual correlation between both apps at this moment.
