Zalando signed a deal with two smaller shoe stores, allowing customers to pick up online orders at the store if they happen to live near either store.
Similar to previous Adidas collaboration
The German online retailer will join forces with shoe stores Tip-Tap Kinderschuhe (based in Weilheim) and Schuhhaus Fischer (based in Esslingen). Customers near those stores will be able to choose whether they want Zalando to ship their orders to their door step or whether they want to pick it up at one of the shoe stores. However, the offer is only valid if the customer buys particular brands: Ricosta in Weilheim and Peter Kaiser in Esslingen.
“It is the first time we work alongside smaller retailers“, Zalando spokesperson, Monica Franz, said. “We want to bring the fashion industry’s players (suppliers, store owners, customers, …) together through these collaborations, creating an elaborate clothing platform.”
It is actually not the first time Zalando does something like this with local stores. It offers a similar service with 2 Adidas stores in Berlin, where customers can also come and pick up their online orders. The novelty is that, in this case, it is the first time the online fashion giant collaborates with independent stores. If it is considered a success in Germany, it could be introduced in other countries later on.
